Health Indicators of Indian States, South India Fares Well

On the other hand, Assam, Chhattisgarh, Madhya Pradesh and Uttar Pradesh were seen with high rates of birth, death and infant mortality among the bigger states. Madhya Pradesh was seen with a birth rate of 27.3, a death rate of 8.3 and infant mortality rate of 62. Uttar Pradesh also had a substantial birth rate of 28.3, death rate of 8.1 and infant mortality rate of 61. Assam and Chhattisgarh were seen to have a birth rate of 23.2 and 25.3, a death rate of 8.2 and 8.0 and an infant mortality rate of 58 and 51 respectively.

Amongst the smaller states Goa was recorded to have better health indicators with a birth rate of 13.2, death rate of 6.6 and infant mortality rate of 10. Meghalaya was seen with the highest birth, death and infant mortality rates in the smaller states category. The birth rate seen in Meghalaya was 24.5, death rate of 7.9 and an infant mortality rate of 55. Meghalaya’s health indicator is lower in the smaller states category as well as low when compared to the national average.

Amongst the Union territories Chandigarh fared with a birth rate of 15.6, a death rate of 3.9 and an infant mortality rate of 22. Dadra and Nagar Haveli were noted to have a birth rate of 26.6, a death rate of 4.7 and an infant mortality rate of 38.
