Many analysts have pointed out that despite the hype, the festival will hardly bring in anything. Unlike its name, the carnival does not allow foreign participants. The organizers had struggled to bring in only 400 participants as people have not been so much attracted to the event. Earlier, the organizers had brought down the registration fees from Rs 100,000 to 20,000, to draw more participants. One day into the event, the organizers have been pushed to bring down the fees by Rs 10,000 further. The government had prescribed a fee as low as Rs 2000 to enter a casino. Moreover, there are also people who do not favour gambling on floating casinos, and more so during monsoons. The casino operators feel otherwise. They believe the gaming festival will strengthen the gambling industry as Goa houses most of India's casinos.
