From 2 Lakhs To 1 Crore Business In 5 Years: Story Of A Tasty Startup

They got their first break in their business in October 2008, with the acquisition of a small, Pune-based company called Food on Wheels. It supplied food to the entire city from a number of restaurants, including those that did not offer home delivery. Since money was an issue to pay for the acquisition, the duo sold an equity stake in TastyKhana.

By the end of 2008, they were getting almost 50-60 orders per month. The business model was simple: a customer could order from any of the 200-odd listed restaurants, and TastyKhana earned a commission from the customer as well as the restaurant. However, as the business grew, the account keeping and human resource efforts began to take its toll on the entrepreneurs.

So, in March 2011, they stopped food delivery and focused only on online orders. The business now depended on advertisements from restaurants. And in November 2011, Delivery Hero, a global firm of food ordering services, invested Rs 84 lakh in TaskyKhana, which helped the company to launch in Mumbai in the year April 2012, followed by Bangalore and Delhi.

Currently, TaskyKhana is undertaking almost 10,000 orders per month. The 54-employee firm hopes to generate revenue of 2 to 2.5 Crore on orders of about Rs 12 crore by the end of 2013 fiscal year.
