Fareed started his journalistic career as the managing editor of Foreign Affairs magazine in 1992 and went on to take charge as the editor of Newsweek International in the year 2000. Later he moved to TIME magazine as a contributing editor and columnist.

His interviews with some of the most prominent personalities such as Dalai Lama, Barack Obama, Manmohan Singh, King Abdullah II, Dmitry Medvedev, Moammad Gadhafi and Lula da Silva gained him a position as one of the most influential and powerful media persons in the U.S. His cover stories and columns discussing wide range of topics from globalization to America’s role in the world are read by more than 25 million readers weekly.

Zakaria who hails from Bombay received a Bachelor of Arts from Yale University and a Doctor of Philosophy in political science from Harvard University. He was honoured with the Padma Bhushan for his contribution towards journalism in the year 2010 and Esquire Magazine called him as "the most influential foreign policy adviser of his generation".

The fall of Zakaria from a prominent journalistic position to the label of a cheater is disappointing and pathetic.
