Car Sales Rise in a Slow Pace



Mahindra & Mahindra reported 27 percent jump in sales at 40,719 units for April, 2012. The company had sold 32,090 units in the same month last year and  in the domestic market, the company registered 29 percent rise in sales to 39,299 units, compared to 30,349 units in the year-ago period, M&M said in a statement(agencies).

Honda Siel Cars India announced 252 percent increase in sales and they were able to sell 7075 units which are more than the sales of last year.

But in contrast to all these profit making car companies, Tata Motor, General Motors India and Ford India were the companies, which witnessed defeat. Tata Motors reported a decline of 7 percent in its total sales including exports in April which stood at 60,086 units from 64,383 units sold in the corresponding period of last year.

Tata’s domestic sales including commercial and passenger vehicles for the period under review declined 5 percent at 57,305 units from 60,125 units sold in the corresponding period of last year.

General Motors India experienced a 20 percent decline in their sales and was able to sell about 8005 units which are much lesser than the sales of 10,050 units in 2011.  Similarly Ford India witnessed a 1.6 percent decline with the sales of 7201 cars.
