Bihar, Second Highest in Violent Crimes



Bihar also reported the second highest incidence (1,413) for dowry deaths accounting for 16.4 percent from a total of 8,391 in the country during the year. The crime rate for Dowry Deaths was highest in Bihar (1.4) against the National rate of 0.7.

Patna, Motihari and Siwan of Bihar reported the highest number of cases under Murder (248 cases), Attempt to commit murder (741 cases) and Dowry Deaths (139 cases) respectively.

Bihar has accounted for 308 out of 1,759murders for ‘Gain’ and 1041 out of 3,337 murders due to ‘Property Dispute’. It accounted for the highest number of Culpable Homicide cases for 'Gain' (25.6 percent), Property Dispute (45.7 percent) and ‘Personal Vendetta' (34.2 percent).

Further, Bihar recorded for 19.1 percent of violent crimes to the total IPC crimes during 2011. The Conviction rate for IPC cases was noted to be low in Maharashtra, Odisha, D & N Haveli, West Bengal, Tripura and Bihar.

The highest dismissals/removals were also reported from Bihar (252) accounting for 28.9 percent followed by Delhi, Uttar Pradesh and Punjab.
