"Apple's iCloud- It's a Dangerous Place Out There"

Presently Honan finds it really difficult to make up to the loss. “I still can’t get into Gmail. My phone and iPads are down. Apple tells me that the remote wipe is likely irrecoverable without serious forensics. Because I’m a jerk who doesn’t back up data, I’ve lost at more than a year’s worth of photos, emails, documents, and more. And, really, who knows what else.”

Honan believes that the hackers might have used brute force technique to get into his account. Simple and short passwords are often pretty easy for hackers to gain access. Honan compares accounts with short password to accounts with no password at all.

It’s true that Apple iCloud accounts can be easily hacked as it requires only a username and password to access, whereas Google provides better security with a two step verification process that involves setting up of a six digit code which will be hurled as a text message to the user’s phone. Although pretty absurd in today’s fast paced world, Honan believes ‘better the verification, better the security.’
