'Task Force' constituted to boost IT growth

Bangalore: The Indian government has constituted a 'Task Force' under the leadership of HCL Infosystems' Chairman and Chief Executive Officer Ajai Chowdhry, to suggest measures to boost the growth of IT, IT-enabled services (ITeS) and electronics hardware manufacturing industry in the country. A Raja, Communications and IT Minister said, "The task force will recommend strategies to aid growth of the IT software and ITeS sector in the context of global developments." Besides, it will also suggest steps to accelerate demand for electronics hardware products in the domestic market. Government has appointed Kiran Karnik, as its Co-Chairman. The other members include, Som Mittal, President, National Association of Software and Services Companies (NASSCOM); Vinod Sharma, MD, Deki Electronics; S.S. Raman, President, Manufacturers' Association for Information Technology (MAIT); Ravinder Zutshi, Deputy Managing Director, Samsung India Electronics and President, Consumer Electronics and TV Manufacturers Association (CEAMA); Sunil Vachani, Managing Director, Dixon Technologies(I); Ashwani Kumar Datt, Chairman and MD, Bharat Electronics; B.V. Naidu, Chairman, India Semiconductor Association (ISA), Poornima Shenoy, President, ISA; Josh Foulger, Head, India sourcing, Nokia India; Ashok Bakthavathsalam, MD, K.G. Information Systems; Osama Manzar, Digital Empowerment Foundation and Vinnie Mehta, Executive Director, MAIT, will work as member-secretary. "For getting wider participation from different sectors of industry, R&D laboratories, e-governance applications, experts and other intellectuals, the Task Force may co-opt other members and create sub-groups, as deemed necessary," concluded Raja.
