Young Britons Prefer Facebook for Staying In Touch

London: One-fifth of the British population aged 25 to 34 today prefers keeping in touch with friends and family online than via telephone, a study has found. According to the broadband provider Talk Talk, over a fifth of the population said they regularly use Facebook to contact people instead of telephone, Daily Mail reported. The Look Who's Talking report interviewed 2,000 people across the country in a bid to find how technology has changed the way Britons communicate. Although it hasn't yet completely overtaken the phone, those who do use the social networking site do so on a regular basis, the study found. Employees with smartphones now contact their colleagues using mobiles, email, Facebook and text messages more frequently than contacting their friends and family over landline phone. It was also found that mobile phones have become more popular than landlines with 40 percent of callers preferring to make calls from their mobile. However, a total of 10.7 million Britons still phone home once a week and the majority of parents said they used their landlines to call children who have flown the nest.
