Wireless subscriber base clocks highest growth in November

New Delhi: India registered highest monthly growth in the wireless telephony segment in November, the country's telecom watchdog Telecom Regulatory Authority of India (TRAI) said in a report. The wireless segment added 6.8 million subscribers during the month - the highest growth in any single calendar month reaching a total wireless subscriber base of 143.02 million, said a TRAI statement. The net addition of wireless and fixed subscribers in the first eight months of the financial year has also been phenomenal - twice as compared to the corresponding period last year. India's tele-density has grown to 16.60 percent in November, compared to 11 percent in the same month last year. However, the number of wire line subscribers went down to 40.51 million last month. Broadband connections have been growing with a total subscriber base touching 2 million. The additions during the first eight months of the current fiscal is 0.65 million as compared to 0.57 millions during the corresponding period in the previous fiscal, Trai said.
