Wipro follows Infy's footstep

HYDERABAD: Moving on the footstep of Infosys Technologies, Azim H. Premji, Chairman of Wipro, has indicated that the company will expand its Hyderabad operations and develop a campus in a 100-acre site initially with a potential employment to about 15,000 people. The company has sought additional land and expects to invest about $215.90 million in Hyderabad and Visakhapatnam. It has also hinted at developing another campus at Visakhapatnam in a seven-acre site initially, wherein it plans to host about 750 people. Given the company's expansion strategy, the Wipro management has sought an additional 300-acre site near Hyderabad and 50-acre site near Visakhapatnam. The company indicated that it proposes to invest about $170.45 million in Hyderabad and $45.45 million in Visakhapatnam. Currently, the company operates from a 30-acre site in Hyderabad and employs about 2,000 people. It has invested about $45.45 million and expects to add another 3,000 people in the current campus. Wipro has recorded exports of $220.45 million from Andhra Pradesh, which is the second largest in the State. This development follows the recent announcement by Infosys to invest about $284.09 million in the State and possibly employ about 25,000 people over a 10-year period.
