Web services to steer in digital decade: Gates

BANGALORE: Bill Gates, chairman and chief software architect of Microsoft, on Wednesday held over 2,500 young software developers and IT geeks to rapt attention, stating that XML Web services would usher in the digital decade. "India has so much potential to provide world class IT services and products that the future of computing power will depend largely on its contribution to the global software development. I am optimistic about India's computing power to sustain the growth and development of global technology for improving the quality of life and businesses," Gates said. He outlined his vision of a world of XML Web services, and reiterated the importance of the Indian developer community in defining the future of computing. Gates shared his views on developing applications for the digital decade. He emphasized on the need to embrace standards, and urged the industry to collaborate for trustworthy computing. Gates urged the Indian IT industry to collaborate with global tech companies such as Microsoft in building trustworthy computing by embracing standards. Reaffirming the commitment of Microsoft to India, Gates lauded the contribution of Indian techies in developing amazing software applications for its .Net and Web services.
