San Francisco: The proposed $700 million acquisition of ITA Software, an airline ticketing software company, by Google is facing stiff resistance from various internet travel agencies. The agencies are pushing the U.S. government to block the deal, insisting that the travel sector would be much influenced if the deal goes on. Led by Expedia, the opposing companies comprise of Kayak.com, Sabre Holdings and Farelogix. They have together formed an alliance called FairSearch.org to fight the suggested deal. The opposing team argues that if the deal is cracked, Google will suppress competition and increase air fares. In its defense, Google stated that it could build better travel tools with the help of ITA, thereby helping both consumers and the travel industry. The investigations are going on and are carried by the U.S. Department of Justice.
