Bangalore: Google’s SVP of Chrome, Sundar Pichai, spoke at the Goldman Sachs Technology conference in San Francisco about Google’s plans on chrome, apps and new strategies, which will supposedly put Microsoft under pressure.

After Larry Page took control of Google, Pichai was promoted as the SVP of chrome, one among seven SVPs reporting directly to Page and also the company reportedly paid him $50 million last year for not leaving Google.

Google’s promotion of Chrome may seem to be odd as the company earns no incremental revenue from its browser compared to other business areas- Android, Search, Social, YouTube and advertising. But Chrome plays the main role in maintaining Google’s platform, i.e. the web, which is ruled by certain “standards.” Google want Chrome to push the web standards and technologies that the company likes. “It's very important that we have an opinion in the web space, and we do that through the browser," said Pichai.

Google has new plans on making the browser ultra fast and also coordinating apps with the browser, which will provide the required support for many of its products like Google Docs, which falls behind Microsoft Word due to lack of offline access, which currently Google is working on.

The main thing which will be a concern for Microsoft is "Google chrome OS."
