Bangalore: Loved or hated, the ‘Netas’ of our country are always in the limelight. People don’t seem to get enough of them. Keeping aside all the growing pandemonium over corruption and inefficiencies that have come to fore off late, the political leaders in the world's largest democracy certainly catch the public imagination for reasons good or bad.

Netapedia, an online encyclopedia about India’s politicians and the political events, revealed the list of the ‘most viewed netas’ in the country. The website has managed to entrap the public by feeding them with non-stop information and at times misinformation too about the political leaders. They came up with particular leaders who are more popular or may be more hated than others.

The team behind Netapedia comprises of Ashish Rathi, Hitesh Lalwani, Premjeet Kumar, Rahul Shrivastava, Rituraj Shukla, Siddharth Bidwan and Sidharth Mishra, who are all current students or alumnus of the prestigious Indian Institute of Technology-Bombay. The seven most viewed netas are:

Sonia Gandhi:

Sonia Gandhi, 62, the Congress president and United Progressive Alliance (UPA) Chairperson topped the list on the ‘most viewed netas’.  She represents the Uttar Pradesh’s Rae Bareli constituency in the Parliament.  Sonia comes with a clean slate and hasn’t been accused or convicted in any legal case till date. The leader owns movable assets worth 1, 17, 70,468 (Rs 1.17 crore) and immovable assets worth Rs 20, 24,300 (Rs 20.24 crore), as per her affidavit filed before the 2009 general elections. 72.2 percent of votes casted in her constituency are noted to be in her favor.

1: wow - somehow the Nehru/Gandhi family has accumulated substantial gains over the years - wonder if India has the strength and ability to conduct a forensic analysis on which politician is worth what and how they accumulated their wealth.

On the bright side, Sonia is probably less willing to be bribed than the average third world despot! This is probably good for India :)

Very true.. She is a waiter.. Doing her share of looting the country following the footsteps of Gandhi family..
I am suspicious whether Sonia started funding SiliconIndia (else how on earth Sonia Manio topped the list) !
