Thanksgiving Obama style: Declares National Family Week
Bangalore: With the Thanksgiving holiday fast approaching, and as American families prepare for the traditional Thanksgiving feast roasting turkey, President Barack Obama declares November 22-28, 2009, National Family week in an effort to honor the American family as the backbone of our nation. As reported by Examiner.com, in the recent White House Address President Obama explained, "American families are the foundation on which our nation is built. Their expressions of unconditional love and dedication sustain family members and support our Nation's communities. During National Family Week, we celebrate the inclusive spirit of American families and applaud the commitment of those family members who encourage us to reach new heights." In his November 20, 2009 proclamation, President Obama expressed his concerns about the U.S. economy, and the financial welfare of American families, as he explained his agenda in moving the nation forward economically. "Ten days after taking office, I established the White House Task Force on middle class working families, led by the Vice -President Biden," President Obama said. "This Task Force is focused on raising the living standards of working families across the country. In addition, the American Recovery and Reinvestment Act provide a broad spectrum of support to families experiencing difficult times." The Vice-President Joe Biden stated at the beginning of this year, "America's middle class is hurting. Trillions of dollars in home equity and retirement savings and college savings are gone. And every day, more and more Americans are losing their jobs." Also, Biden and President Obama are determined to put America back on the right track through strengthening the economy, creating jobs, and ensuring that middle class families remain financially viable. "Quite simply, a strong middle class equals a strong America. We can't have one without the other," added Vice President Biden, as he accepted the responsibility to oversee Task Force initiatives early January 2009. "It is our charge to get the middle class - the backbone of this country - up and running again." "As we continue to grow as a Nation, we must also be engaged members of our larger family, composed of our neighbors, our colleagues, and the community where we live," President Obama explained. "We must appreciate the diversity of other families' traditions; we must reach out to help families in need; and we must take more responsibility for the care and development of all children, not just our own. In this season of Thanksgiving, we are grateful that, at our best, America is a collection of strong families, standing united to make our Nation a place of hope and opportunity for future generations."
