Techies Watch Out:Hot and Happening Technologies

5. Big Data

What is it?  Big data, in Information technology, is the collection of datasets that consist of a number of varieties and formats of data. The said datasets are so large that it soon becomes awkward to work with the data contained in them using usual database management tools.

How hot is it? Almost as hot as the cloud. With increasing amounts of data, data analysts are researching new, more competent and efficient ways to deal with data. One popular technology in this field would be the Hadoop File system, which is helping to change the face of enterprise and business IT. Professionals are needed to mine, visualize and analyze big data, and this need is ever-growing.

Why is it important? In the words of Michael Dsupin, the CEO of tech staffing firm Talener, “Marketing and research people are becoming adept at pulling data from one system, translating it, and loading it into another system. My friends in advertising are turning into HTML, CSS, and JavaScript developers. Sales and marketing pros are learning how to customize Salesforce. Everything these days is about harvesting the data out there.” Enough said.

How much does it pay? $108,000 per annum in Silicon Valley, and around $71,000 per annum in other parts of the US

Gaurav Makkar (Technical Director, NetApp), Vishal Singh (Data Architect, Intuit) and Amiteshwar Seth (Head of Data Management Services, Infosys Technologies) join the ranks of the brilliants in the field of Big Data at the India Software Developer Conference that will be held from March 24 through 25 in Bangalore. If you’re enthusiastic about big data, make sure you’re there. This is one conference you should NOT miss.
