BANGALORE: After the Koreans announced their interest in tapping India for semiconductor development; now the Taiwanese IC industry is looking to collaborate with India's technology sector on design of system-on-chips (SoC).
Steve Line, President of the Taiwan SoC Consortium, said the Taiwanese industry was looking to project itself as a base for system-on-chip design and offer its customers a single country solution for all their chip needs.
"India is a great place for pure R&D work and is conducive for ramping up operations in a way that no other region is capable of," said Bob Hoekstra, Member, Nasscom Executive Council, and CEO, Philips Software Centre.
"In the coming years Taiwan is going after digital consumer devices and communication products and we believe SoC to be the next battleground for IC design," Lin said. Taiwan is home to some of the world's largest fabless semiconductors, including MediaTek, VIA, SunPlus, Novatek and Realtek, with a 30 per cent world market share, which is growing at 30 per cent.
Taiwan has picked Taipei and Hsinchu for focussed SoC design and development efforts, Lin said, adding that the country looked to collaborate with Indian players for such design and development.
