NEW DELHI: After the government notified broadcasting and cable services as ''telecommunication services'', the Telecom Regulatory Authority of India (TRAI) has been asked to make recommendations for regulating the addressable systems such as Set Top Boxes (STBs), cost of pay channels and maximum time for advertisement in pay as well as other channels. This was announced by Information and Broadcasting Minister Ravi Shankar Prasad in the Lok Sabha today. The Minister said TRAI has fixed ceiling charges payable to the cable operators, by the cable operators to the multi-system operators and Broadcasters as those were prevailing on December 26 last year. TRAI would take any decision on tariff rates keeping in view the interests of the consumers as per the directions of the Delhi High Court, he added. A proposal for setting up a Broadcasting Content Regulatory Authority is under consideration, Prasad said.
