BANGALORE:U.S. software major Sun Microsystems Inc. Friday announced the initiation of a global strategic program aimed at streamlining and consolidating R&D operations in India. It also plans to hire around 1,000 software engineers in India over the next two years, doubling its headcount here. "We believe India is the biggest and fastest growing markets and are adopting technology unbelievably faster than in the developed markets," Steve Pelletier, senior vice president for Sun's global engineering division said. The fresh recruits will ramp up Sun's research & development efforts at its development center in Bangalore, said Pelletier. This move will also allow the Suns India Engineering Center to develop products in India to suit the unique needs of the Indian market, which could then be benchmarked globally. The Bangalore center is Sun’s largest engineering center outside the United States and has ownership over key components and technologies of the Java Enterprise systems.
