Sterlite bags $74 Mn contract

Mumbai: Leading optical fibre provider Sterlite Technologies Ltd Thursday said it had won three contracts worth 2.96 billion from the Power Grid Corporation of India (PGCIL) to supply power transmission conductors. PGCIL is India's largest buyer of power transmission conductors. Pravin Agarwal, director of Sterlite Technologies, said: "We believe Sterlite has the capability to maintain equilibrium in supply of our products to service the growing demand from the Indian market and to grow our global market shares." Under the contract, Sterlite will supply over 8,300 km of conductors, which would be installed in the 400 KV Korba-Birsinghpur-Damoh-Bhopal transmission lines in Madhya Pradesh. The company also received a contract to supply about 1,450 km of conductors, which would be installed in the 400 KV D/C Vapi-Navi Mumbai line in Maharashtra.
