Sony plans to strengthen market share with new products

Mumbai: Sony India today announced the plans to boost its leadership status in the compact camera segment by touching a 45 percent market share. The market for digital cameras is vibrant and Sony India is continually fuelling this competitive environment by introducing new and innovative products that dynamically alter the market landscape. These new Cyber-shot cameras are multi-equipped with technologies like "Sweep Panorama" and HD (High Definition) movie. Also, most cameras are equipped with 14 mega-pixel resolution to produce sharper and cleaner pictures. Speaking on the launch of new cyber-shot cameras, Masaru Tamagawa, Managing Director, Sony India, said, "This launch is in sync with Sony's global strategy to design and create innovative products that not only strengthens our brand identity but also benefit our customers. It has been our constant endeavor to provide the best technological solutions for all target groups. The introduction of Sweep Panorama and HD Movie technology will ensure that a wider consumer audience would be able to experience Sony's technologically superior products." The 'Sweep Panorama' technology allows you to capture ultra-wide pictures with a huge field view of up to 270 degrees. The technology works on the principle of shooting high-speed bursts of frames as you sweep the camera from side to side or top to bottom. The 'HD Movie' feature with the new 720p/1080p High Definition movie shooting capability allows you to capture your own HD videos at 30 fps at 1280 x 720 pixel resolution and share the excitement with your friends. The 'sweep panorama' and the 'HD Movie' technologies will be available at an affordable and competitive price range, from as low as 12,990/- to 29,990, thus capturing a wider customer base. The Compact Camera Segment in India is currently estimated at 1.3 million units and is expected to grow up to 1.8 million units by Financial Year 2010-11. Sony targets to sell more than 8,00,000 units in Financial Year 2010-2011 up from 5,50,000 units in Financial Year 2009-10. T Series The new Cyber-shot TX7 is the world's smallest and slimmest camera range enabled with Full HD (1920 x 1080, 60i) movie shooting capability and a 25 mm wide-angle lens. This makes for a powerful combination that vastly expands shooting capabilities and delivers high-quality still photos and movies. The full HD capability which is also a first in compact camera records superb HD movies with just a single touch. The wide compatibility of movies shot with TX7 helps expand post-shooting enjoyment. Inserting a memory stick containing footage into an optional DVDirect (VRD-MC6) allows easy creation of high-quality HD DVDs without a computer. Movies can be also played on PS3 and Blu-ray Disc players/recorders as well as TVs and PCs. The camera features a 10.2 megapixel "Exmor R" CMOS image sensor that brings out the full resolving power of the camera's Carl Zeiss Vario-Tessar lens. The 3.5 Inch DSC-TX7 will be available in Silver color at 22,990, while the 3 Inch DSC-TX1 will be available in black colour at 17,990. W Series With the Sweep Panorama technology, the W Series cameras can continuously shoot at a high speed, and then seamlessly stitch the images together with automatic position adjustment to create one stunning panoramic image in as fast as three seconds. Available in wide and ultra-wide options, the camera can take panoramic shots of up to 270 degrees. It also allows to watch HD movies at 30 fps and 1280 x 720 pixel resolution by connecting to an HDTV. Sony has launched 7 new cameras in the W series. The W series range starts from 8990 and will be available in Silver, Black, Pink, Green, Blue and Gold. H Series The DSC-HX1 comes with a 3.0-inch Clear Photo LCD Plus display that can be tilted for viewing, making it much easier for users to shoot high- and low-angled photos. With 20x Optical Zoom users can zoom in and capture the smallest of details even from a distance. Retaining the benefits of the Cyber-shot range, the new H-series cameras are also equipped with popular Double Anti-blur Solution. Optical Steady Shot image stabilizer and ISO 3200 high sensitivity mode to ensure images are sharp and clear. Available in bold black color, the HX1 comes at an affordable price tag of 29,990. S Series The new DSC-S2100 features 12.1 effective mega pixels, 3x optical zoom and a roomy 3.0-type Clear Photo LCD whereas DSC-S2000 features 10.1 effective mega pixels, 3x optical zoom and a 2.5-type Clear Photo LCD. Both cameras retain the previous Face Detection and Steady Shot functions which add value to the shooting experience Both the cameras are available in silver and black colour. DSC-S2000 is priced at 6990, while DSC-S2100 is available at 7990.
