Should Child Beggars be given Money or Not?

While walking in the street for shopping, we often come across mutilated children, who have lost their hands or legs. Our hands invariably go into our pockets seeing the pitiable condition of these children, but please tarry a little here. Does the money that you give them actually help them or nourish them? The truth is bitter! These children are mostly chosen by gang members to invoke sympathy in the minds of people, so that they are given money. There are also alleged reports of other harsh realities that suggest that these kids do not lose their limbs in an accident. So how does it happen? There are no guesses to make here. These innocent children are physically and mentally tortured. They are taught how to beg, pose sad faces, and cry. If they do not cry, then they are beaten up. There are also gangs who 'steal' small children to make them beg.

1: As far as i concerned we should not give money the beggers, istead of it we can help them by another way. like we can provide them food, cloth, medecine, shelter. It will be good if we could trend them in any skill so that they could earn themselves and became independent. And we must focus from where r thay coming?

2: We should never give money to the child beggars. When I was in School I had written a composition on this Topic.Once yu start giving them alms they become used to it and we promote more and more robberies( chori).

3: We never give any money to these children, but definitely we have to give them food, cloths and medicines. If we can, send them to school. But at the same time want to look from where these children coming. In corrupted India, nothing can do.

I dont know am i write or wrong but as i feel that we should not give money as well as food, because i think the child beggar not only routed by beggar mafia , its also routed by there parents and they are not taking this as a begging. They treat begging as they daily duty or business.
So we should not give any thing to either child or there parent , yes off cource if old person is begging who can not help there self then we should to give.

8: Good the see someone cover the story... it should have been the Times Group, HT, Dainik, etc that should have covered the stroy. I generally avoid giving child beggars any money for the same reasons stated above. The most one should do is give them something to eat. If we give.... we're promoting such abuse.

14: I fully agree with the thought process of Siliconindia. The situation is so desperate and so pathetic that one does not know what to do about this menace. The solution proposed to do your bit by feeding/looking after these children and not giving alms is one fine way of easing the problem up to some extent however what happens to the powers that be, the mafia who control these children. The life of the children will be made miserable if they do not bring in money. One solution could be for the govt of the day to make begging illegal and rehabilitate the beggars in such a way that they can look after their upkeep and livelihood and at the same time round up these mafias dons and punish them severely so that an example may be set for the others. The govt has to look after this problem and the police force made accountable. You know the saying..`where there is a will there is a way'.

15: The problem is known to all concerned and responsible agencies like ths Police/NGO's and the Political Leaders but they are not interested in solving the poblem as they are in some way linked with the concerned mafia. The problem is worse than what the witer has expressed. It is a Tax-Free Business and there is no IT Raid.

16: The write up is not fully intelligent as one may feel it to be. If there are mafia gangs, then they need to be found out, for they would resort to kidnapping children. As to giving alms to a begging child, it is not a crime to do so. There is poverty in India, and it is not a fast developing nation as the writer seem to dream. People sitting with a computer and Internet in front of them, and moving around in a/c cars and living in luxorious houses would feel it, but that is not the truth.
As to banning child labour, it is also an idiotic posture. For children do have the right to work and it is definitel better than begging. But then working in India, child or adult, to Indians, is slighly akin to being slaves. That is the core issue, and not working as such.
Talking about mafia, which Bombay media is daring to write about the sale of women, lured, kidnapped, or tricked, to the brothels there? The straw quality Indian leaders have no time to basics.
Posted by:Ved from Victoria Institutions - 15 Oct, 2011
17:
I understand your point in not banning child labor but saying that they should be given alms is not quite understandable when instead you can really help them by providing food or other help.
Also writer is not just dreaming about fast developing nation but thinking in a constructive manner as to how can we avoid child begging in long run. If we stop giving them money as a result of which their bosses(mafia gangs) will receive lesser money everyday thus making their work(not to mention heinous)fruitless. Which can be painful & seemingly long for now but can lead to a place with no beggars at least no child beggars.

18: no. an absolute no. it is probably the only means of stopping child abuse . if the business stops generating income very few people will take the risk of kidnapping kids and putting them on beggar street

20: yeh so many comments on the issue. i agree with fellow writers that the issue has gained alarming situation in india.but let us think abt the root cause..the terrible explosion in population. u can see many young ladies with three or more kids with her begging on roads etc.the govt must come out with clear population policy with total withdrawal of govt support after certain number of kids without anyt reservation to any caste. rehabilitation is business of govt, and it is their responsibility.but they must ensure that facility given to them is not looted by political people/mafias

Those women on the streets are not mothers of the children. Chidren are bought for this purpose. why do you think most of the times these children are asleep. As said by writer of Silicon India. We should not give any money to these beggars. Only food and medicines. I hate to see kids begging around while we are shopping and eating. Giving money to NGOs doesn't help either to every small kid in this world. Child prostitution and cannabalism...I cannot think of these things happening in culture rich India, but this is happening. This awareness should be spread not just on FB but also to other people who are not on FB and Silicon India. I would really say this time Silicon India has come up with a very nice writeup.

They will not get food & so on. It looks good to write. Blame Govt etcc but what have we done for them. Think that first.....IT looks good to sit & sit & write & critize others. Mr. Ashish, You have asked a question which every body knows but no one can put their head which will get chopped off and no one will know how it happened. Who ever has written has shown his concern and he must have tried but like me he must have failed because it is the question of survival for the beggars and their family whom we have to go on merits and need counseling before picking them secondly it is not easy to bring them to the orphanage. I will be happy to take them and take care of the children including education. can you bring them ?
unless someone writes we cannot understand the truth and practical problems.and he must be doing his best that is reason he is concerned and is writing Can you Help to reach the goal may be some of us are scared of the mafia or unable to get the support to do this heroic act. He may not be afraid of Mafia but worried about family who need his support and having family got used to dependency.
We have to contribute to make country grow.

If govt think of 28000 crore on these children there their life and future will get secured. If government is not spent money on such sports and other entertainment thing no one is going to die.But if they will not do anything about this issue lots of children can die or there future will get into darkness. Its better to think of our priority of needs to do. As they say we are competing with USA,Uk, austalia like country. They have solved this type of problem a long decades ago. SO think of like we are many decades behind them.Developed country cant be just based on money.ITs based on quality of life of citizens, amount of corruption and moral issues. And we are topped in this corruption thing. Some 5-10% NGO's sincerely are working on this issue.but sad part is 90-95 % NGO's are just trying to make money.I worked with one of big national level NGO's and i surprised how they grab money and how much spends on root level.THese statitics are really surprising and Useless.

29: The beggars should be given food, not money. If there are too many beggars and less food, the beggars should be made to repeat the name of god for 2 hours and only then given food. this way the mafia and drug addicts will not get any money. Otherwise the strongest beggar gets everything.

Our govt. should take critical steps to ensure child labor, pan-handling/begging and child/women trafficking should controlled and prosecuted like in other western countries. But can we trust our own govt. and politicians? If we may put our trust in them, next thing we know is that they are running the show and doing all these things through those goons.

I remember, many years back, i used to see a small child selling things at a traffic junction in delhi, he always asked me for food and warm clothes. And every day, without fail, I would carry an extra lunch pack for him and handed it to him while going to office. One day he just vanished from that traffic junction and no one knew what happened to him. I hope he is fine.

35: I used to see them on trains daily on the way to office.
1. A lady of age around 30 will sing a song and stand in a place and the kid roam around begging every one.
2. There are 3 kids who do the begging together. When they begged to everyone in the train compartment, they all sit together to play something, like a normal kids. I felt sad they are here @ the age of going to schools and learn to lead a better life.
The article would be better if u guys give phone no to inform/report this to concern departments.

The ruffians in the government departments would catch the children and put them in some home, removed from their parents. Why don't you do this on your children first. As to putting them in the hands of ugly teachers, well that is a crime which the gods will not forgive. Why dont you allow the children to continue their game in peace?

37: THIS TYPE OF CHILD BEGGING IS EVERY WHERE IN INDIA.THE GOVERNMENT SHOULD TAKE KEEN INTEREST TO MAKE THE LAW ACTIVE BY DIRECTING THE POLICE TO TAKE INTO CUSTODY THESE CHILDREN AND REHABILITATE THEM IN ASYLUMS. EVEN THE PUBLIC SHOULD BE AWARE OF SUCH ASYLUMS/POLICE WITH PUBLICITY BY PUBLISHING THE TELE.NOS. SO THAT ANY CITIZEN FINDS THAT A CHILD BEGGAR WAS FOUND IN THE STREET THEY SHOULD INFORM THESE PEOPLE OR POLICE TO TAKE CUSTODY OF THEM.IT IS NOT THAT THE LOCAL POLICE IS NOT AWARE OF THESE MAFIA WHO PROMOTES CHILD BEGGING.THE POLICE COULD EASILY CAPTURE THEM AND PUT THEM UNDER SEVERE PUNISHMENT.

RECENTLY I HAD OBSERVED MANY BEGGARS OLDER PEOPLE IN FRONT OF THE CHURCHES ETC BEGGING. EVEN THE MAFIA IS BEHIND FOR THESE BEGGARS.EVEN AFTER ANNOUNCEMENT FROM THE CHURCH AUTHORITIES NOT TO ENCOURAGE THEM FAITHFUL PEOPLE SEEING THEIR PHYSICAL CONDITIONS STILL PAY THEM.
HENCE THE ISSUE SHOULD BE TAKEN UP BY THE GOVERNMENT IN THE TRUE SPIRIT AND BEGGARS SHOULD NOT BE ALLOWED.

EVEN WE KNOW THAT SOME INDIVIDUAL BEGGARS WHO ARE NOT UNDER MAFIA HAD BANK DEPOSITS/CASH TO THE EXTEND OF LAKHS AND STILL CONTINUE THE BEGGING.

social indifference to rehabilitate is the cause of child or old aged beggars. In Hydrabad at road junctions old aged ladies and men were crisscrossing the road in danger zone. Early morn they will be dropped and at night they will be picked by some vans. They shall pay their collections to this brutal gang. If income is short, they will be beating in their ghettos. Barbarism is visibly seen in the HI_TECH high society world.
i found lame fellow in Main Road where thousand cross lying with his some metal can at dark times. I was informed that these fellows are drugged and dropped by gang in the morning and lifted back in the evening.

Issue is donors are not guilt. It is their softness to human misery that make them to part with their earning.
BUT WHO WILL TELL THE HUMAN RIGHT ACTIVISTS AND POLICE
TO ACT AGAINST ATROCITIES. I AM ALSO AFRAID TO SUGGEST THAT THESE BEGGERS SHALL BE TAKEN TO BEGGARS HOME. BECAUSE MINISTER FOR SOCIAL WELFARE EATS THEIR FUNDS AND LEAVE THE BEGGERS HIGH AND DRY.
CAN WE CREATE A SMALL PRODUCTION UNITS WHEREIN THEY WILL BE GIVE SOME NOTIONAL PROTECTION AND ENGAGE THEM IN MANUFACTURING OR DOING SOME MILD WORK SO THAT THEY WILL BE ACTUALLY MENTALLY DIVERTED AND SELF CONFIDENCE IS INJECTED?
Posted by:KRISHNA - 14 Oct, 2011
39: Giving money to these children will definitely not help as it is a fact that there is a mafia behind the, who will snatch away the money. Instead, it is better to give them the benefit of education and free meals, giving money will only make a bad situation worse. The police and the administrative machinery should ensure safety of these children, who could have been kidnapped and forced into this trade.
Posted by:K Deshpande - 14 Oct, 2011
40: If we don't give anything to the beggars willingly, they will forcibly snatch or steal. Bottom-line, beggars and poverty will always remain as long as there is corruption in India's political system. Not every politician is corrupt but in general most of them are. Beggars, poverty and corruption is everywhere but it is not as visible as it is in India.

42: It’s said reality, and makes sense that giving some money is not going to help these children’s. I understand we need to work on different front to resolve this problem. We need to extend our social involvement towards society and need to use our time, knowledge, and some money. We all know a government is busy in LOOTING the country for their own 7 generations, so we need to choose good people in politics.
I experienced due to IAC-India Against Corruption movement that we can be part politics without being politiation and can effectively make our demands, its long way but we started very well.

100% I agree with you. Its better not to point out and pass our time as if we are doing so great job for the society by passing comment on others. Whoever it may be creators of beggars / smugglers / terrorists / corruptions so on..... We must satisfy doing good job as much as possible that is the contribution which we do for our motherland. By writing or talking we cant do any such things. We must form an association and n number of branches to be established in each and every nuke and corner of country. But here the question is to find people TO STRAIN WITHOUT GAIN. One such person can educate minimum 10 beggars ......... These social activity has to be done by their own without any expectation / publicity / recognition. God has given us knowledge not to keep within ourselves and gain some money and lead luxury life and keep for our next next generations. We much spread the knowledge and make POWER OUT OF KNOWLEDGE. Need to conduct spiritual classes like meditation (control and balance our mind) Musical classes (to maintain peace of mind and be happy) yoga classes (maintain our health and happiness) Where is will there is many ways to do..... must stop talking and start doing things what we say. Write what we do and Do what we write system. If students start doing good things of their own there may not be any teacher who can guide to do bad things. Its better try to correct ourselves first and then try to correct others instead talking.
