Sensex closes almost 5 percent lower

Mumbai: Indian equities markets ended trade in the red Monday as global markets took a nose-dive, with a key index shutting shop 4.62 percent below its previous close.
The 30-scrip Bombay Stock Exchange (BSE) sensitive index (Sensex), which opened at 9,902.35 points, ended at 9,584.27 points (provisional) - a fall of 464.22 points or 4.62 percent from its previous close.
Similarly, the S&P CNX Nifty of the National Stock Exchange (NSE) lost 4 percent from its last close to end at 2,984.45 points.
The BSE midcap index was ruling 1.56 percent lower, while the BSE smallcap index was down 1.14 percent.
