NEW DELHI: Seagate Technology, the world's leading hard disc drive supplier, has entered into a collaboration with state-owned National Insurance Company to offer insurance cover for personal computer users in India. The scheme will offer comprehensive three-year protection for a wide range of computer components, not just hard disc drives, a company statement said Wednesday. Called the "Peace of Mind" programme, the scheme is being offered to individuals buying new computers equipped with Seagate disc drives from August 18. While the disc drives have to be exclusively Seagate, there is no restriction on the brand of the computer, the statement said. The protection package offered by National Insurance Company will provide reimbursement to consumers for repair or replacement of computer parts, regardless of the brand of computer, if they are found to be defective due to mechanical and electrical breakdown. The programme covers standard hardware parts for the computer and monitor. The computer's plastic casing, bezel, mouse, keyboard and other external peripherals are not included. "Seagate is synonymous with offering premium quality hard disc drives that consumers trust to store their important information, and we are pleased that this 'Peace of Mind' programme supports computer users who specify Seagate as their disc drive of choice," said B.S. Teh, Seagate vice president for Asia Pacific Sales and Marketing. The programme is being offered for a premium of 399 for computer systems worth up to 30,000 and 599 for systems worth between 30,000 and 50,000, inclusive of taxes. To simplify the claim process, VMS India Ltd. has been appointed as a central point of contact for registration, claims and any related queries.
