Hyderabad: Satyam Computer Services, a Hyderabad-based IT and consulting company, has announced that it is all set to launch the next generation enterprise applications delivery model - software as a service (SaaS) - for small and medium enterprises (SMEs). SaaS brings several advantages to SMEs, such as low up-front investment, predictable maintenance costs, lower customisation, leaner IS staff and scalable service level among other things, the company said. Satyam is partnering Nasscom and the Federation of Andhra Pradesh Small Industries Associations (Fapsia) in the initiative to promote IT adoption among SMEs in Hyderabad. Under this model, the company will provide web-based enterprise application platform (EAP) for use by SMEs to run business operations like sales, purchases, production, shipment, finance and accounts. Subu D, Manufacturing and Automotive Business Director and Senior VP, Satyam, said, "The model was an upcoming development abroad, where companies pay for IT systems based on usage." SMEs are among the fastest growing segments in a developing economy and have a critical impact on regional dispersal of industries, promoting entrepreneurship and employment generation, according to the company. "The SMEs will only need an Internet connection and a browser to plug in and operate the system. This would allow them a minimal investment in terms of hardware, support software, application licences among other things that are required to implement a business system," Subu added.
