Satyam now a player in global football

Hyderabad: Satyam Computer Services Ltd, a leading global consulting and IT services company, Tuesday signed two multi-million dollar contracts with international football association FIFA to support its major upcoming events. Satyam will develop a customised event management system and build extranet and intranet for FIFA in order to lend full and uninterrupted support for both solutions until the final whistle of each game. The contracts were signed in the presence of B. Ramalinga Raju, founder and chairman of Satyam, Michael Kelly, head, information technology solutions of FIFA and Charles-Henry Contamine, head, new media, FIFA. "This is one of the most prestigious projects for Satyam. We are quite proud of this achievement," said Raju but declined to give details such as the size of the contracts. "FIFA chose Satyam after quite a rigorous process. This is certain enhancement of competencies we are building as we are increasingly competing with players globally," he said. Keshab Panda, senior vice president, director and head of Satyam's European operations, said the IT industry in Europe was booming, which had seen Satyam's revenues from the region cross 20 percent of total revenues, and he hoped that this would go up further. Michael Kelly said the contracts were crucial, as FIFA had decided to build its own applications. "After the 2006 World Cup, it was decided that licensing software applications were no longer sustainable and that we should build our own applications," he said. FIFA officials said the association has selected Satyam as it has a global footprint. Under the contracts, Satyam will produce security badges for players, FIFA officials and VIPs for the 2010 World Cup and will also manage the transportation system.
