Satyam launches media convergence framework

Chennai: Software services major Satyam Computer Services Wednesday signalled a major thrust in the media and entertainment sector as it launched a framework that increases revenue opportunities for content producers.
Satyam's Integrated Digital Media Framework (IDMF) is a combination of various solutions. The company has developed the basic engine on which other solutions ride on.
Simply put, IDMF enables re-purposing content by converting it into different formats to address varied market segments.
For instance, text content can be converted into a format suitable for sending an SMS to a mobile phone or other digital products like personal digital assistant (PDA). This will enhance revenue opportunities for a print publishing company.
Similarly, a television interview could be converted into text, using voice conversion solution, which in turn could be used as an interview for a print publication, explained Abhijit Dasgupta, vice president (media and entertainment).
"We will initially target print publications - media and book publishers - for this framework and later expand the target market," Kevin R. English, global head (media & entertainment), told the media here Wednesday.
However, he declined to give any numbers about the potential market size in India or of solutions/modules for which the intellectual property rests with partner companies.
Apart from using its own marketing force, Satyam has tie-ups with its partners to market IDMF.
