Samsung to set up $100 mn plant in Tamil Nadu

Chennai: Samsung would set up a new $ 100 million manufacturing facility in Tamil Nadu, the second in India. Samsung India Electronics Pvt. Ltd signed an agreement with the state government for setting up of the facility in Sriperumbudur, near here. The pact was signed by Tamil Nadu Industries Secretary Shakti Kanta Das and Samsung president and CEO S.H. Oh. Samsung has a production facility in Noida, near Delhi. The Sriperumbudur facility will be Samsung's biggest facility in the region and be hub for its products for export to the Middle East and African and SAARC countries," said R. Zutshi, Samsung India's deputy managing director. The project that aims to provide employment to about 4,000 people will begin production by 2007.
