RealNetworks launches first digital media server

BANGALORE: RealNetworks on Wednesday said that it has unveiled Helix Universal Server that lowers the cost of digital media delivery by supporting every major digital media format while also breaking new ground in delivery performance. The server streams all major media types, including RealAudio, RealVideo, Apple's QuickTime, MPEG-2, MPEG-4 and Windows Media. The server hopes to provide multi-format solutions to broadcasters, enterprises, content providers, telecommunication carriers, Internet service providers and hosting companies. Helix Universal Server enables organizations to consolidate their streaming infrastructure and lower complexity. As a result, the cost of digital media delivery is significantly reduced. Helix Universal Server delivers 400% more Windows Media streams than Windows Media Server on the same hardware. When comparing Helix Universal Server on Windows 2000 with Windows Media Server on Windows 2000, Helix serves 200% more Windows Media streams.
