Quark has big plans for Mohali

CHANDIGARH: Denver-based US software giant Quark, Inc. which set up base in Mohali over 5 acres with an investment of Rs 80 crore and achieved an export turnover of Rs 24 crore during 2003 is now in the midst of firming up its plans for development of the adjoining 46 acres into north India’s biggest business park. “We are developing our business plan and will finalise the plan by February as well as the budget to architecturally create a blend of industrial, commercial and residential complex over the 46 acres,” Quark president Kamar Aulakh said. In the first phase in the 46 acres, some 4 million sq ft of space is to be created of which 2.2 million sq ft is to be offered as office/industrial space. Aulakh said that several companies including Dell , Convergys, Wipro and Hutch have already evinced interest in Quark’s expansion plan which will involve an initial investment of $100 million with subsidiary company Quark Software setting up shop within the proposed complex as an anchor company over 5 lakh sq ft of space. In addition, some property management/real estate firms including CB Richards Ellis, Jones Lang LaSalle, Cushman and Wakefield, Integrated Property Management Services and Equis India had also shown interest in the project, he said.
