PUNE: SiliconIndia turned out to be a great forum of learning where several industry leaders spoke on HR Strategies at "Strategic HR Summit" for human resource professionals that opened on 11th January, 2012 in Pune. There was Inaugural keynote followed by 4 Panel, 3 sessions and 130 delegates including CEOs, MDs, HR - VPs, Directors & Heads were present to attend the event. The event was sponsored by eMee & Manipal University. The Main theme of this Strategic HR summit was to provide an insight into the interplay of cultural, institutional and organizational factors that affect the HRM practices Ganesh Natrajan Vice Chairman and CEO of Zensar Technologies delivered the inaugural keynote on "Preparing People for the Economic Challenges Ahead". He said "There is a general concern about the lack of principled leadership in most economies including India which has caused the current political and economic morass". He also stated that "Companies and industry sectors must align their HR strategies with the overall growth and transformation strategies of the firm. It will need People centric leaders and strong focus on managing expectations of young entrants to organizations to be able to build successful companies of the future" The first panel started with a discussion on "Engaging Gen Y - Leadership and Organization Culture" by Industrial experts Vikas Shirodkar, VP HR, General Motors, Sharad Gangal, Executive Vice President HR-Admin, IR, Thermax, Soumi Alphons, Head - HR, SAS Research & Development and Nayana Prabhu, Lead Consultant CHRD , Wipro. They all had an involved discussion. Vikas Shirodkar said "The greatest challenge is the "talent squeeze" that we are all facing. To counter this induction of fresh blood is a must. But it means we must focus on how to accelerate maturity amongst the Gen Y. For that use the 70/20/10 Rule of development: Do max (70 %) through on the job experiences; Project work; Cross functional assignments; Stretch work assignments." He also said " Managers will have to have serious career discussions with all Gen Y folks and that should include not only the What (Results) but also focus on the How ( Process of getting work done) and Why ( the value questions of work)". Adding value to Vikas, Nayana Prabhu from Wipro said "The need for leaders to be agile- create unique opportunities and design spaces in organizations that will involve the Gen Y, welcome and challenge the potential of the young generation". She also said "The need for organizations to create processes that would support and help the young generation to get on board and be fully prepared to contribute in the shortest possible time" Nayana stated that "There is a sense of urgency to get all this created- as industry and the nation is at a point in history once again where to leverage growth and innovation we will need to harness the talent and potential of our Generation Y. Therefore there is a need to use technology, use social media and do all that it takes to keep in touch with Gen Y."They also suggested brilliant ideas to make the HR Fraternity powerful by engaging Gen Y Leadership. "Talent management in challenging time" was the second panel for the day which was a really informative and interactive session by expert stalwart like Abhay Valsangkar, CAO and Head HR, Avaya India who has 3 decades experience in the field of HR, Gajendra Chandel, President & Head - Group HR, TATA AutoComp Systems, Kaushik Mitter, Director HR, Honeywell Automation India, Abhay Patil, VP "Talent Management, Harbinger Group and Yogesh Patgaonkar, Executive Vice President - HR, Zensar Technologies.
