Preeta Bansal Leaving Obama Administration in August
Fremont: Indian American Preeta Bansal, senior policy advisor and the general counsel of the Office of Management and Budget, is leaving the administration. This American lawyer will be joining a Think Tank, an organization that conducts research and engages in advocacy in areas such as social policy, political strategy, economics, military or technology issues and probably return to private practice. Preeta is among several Indian Americans who are leaving the administration after two years and more due to the demanding schedules is what is considered a natural turnover. Serving president Obama was a great privilege for Bansal. She led the Obama-Biden legal transition team for six months prior to its inauguration, and was a part of the president's campaign team of outside advisers since the start of 2007. Before joining the Obama administration, she was head of the appellate practice at Skadden, Arps, Slate, Meagher & Flom and she served as New York state solicitor general under then-Attorney General Eliot Spitzer. Bansal is the former Solicitor General of the State of New York; a previous Special Counsel in the White House and Justice Department (1993-1996); and a former law clerk to U.S. Supreme Court John Paul Stevens. In 2009, Bansal was mentioned as a possible nominee for U.S. solicitor general, after Elena Kagan left the post after being named to the Supreme Court.
