BANGALORE: Patni Computers Systems Ltd, a Mumbai-based leading IT services company, will set up a software development centre at the electronics' city here. To be located on the outskirts of Bangalore, the centre will have about 1,100 employees working on various development projects, including services to GE, one of its largest customers. According to a company statement issued here Tuesday, the proposed centre will commence operations from July to meet Patni's rapidly growing business requirements. The company, however, did not mention the investment being made in the development centre. "Our game plan is to expand our presence in the south as our major operations are currently located in the western and northern regions of the country. With our own facility in the 'Silicon Valley of the country', we intend to capitalise on the wealth of talent available here and be closer to our growing list of clients," Patni's resident-director P.J. Kutar said. The centre will service clients in the embedded technology solutions space, which is witnessing over 100 percent growth year-on-year. It will also focus on Patni's enterprise applications practices. The centre will be Patni's seventh such development facility in India and will complement its multiple development facilities in Mumbai, Navi Mumbai, Pune, Noida, Gandhinagar and Chennai. "Patni has outperformed the industry average with a CAGR of 41 percent over the last five years. Going forward, we intend to tap high-quality talent to sustain the rapid growth," Kutar said. "The Bangalore centre will allow us to leverage the high-quality skill sets in the city to help achieve our targets and reinforce our overall business strategy." Public-listed Patni provides IT services to 2000 global clients in the manufacturing, insurance, banking and financial services, retail, hospitality, energy and utilities industries.
