Parliament to consider 27 bills in brief session

New Delhi: The parliament session commencing Thursday will consider 39 measures - 27 bills, 10 financial measures and two non-legislative items, Parliamentary Affairs Minister Vayalar Ravi said Wednesday. "These include three bills replacing three ordinances - the High Court and Supreme Court Judges (Salaries and Conditions of Service) Amendment Ordinance, 2009, the Central Industrial Security Force (Amendment) Ordinance, 2009, and the Central Universities Ordinance, 2009, promulgated by the president during inter-session period," he told reporters here. The last session of the present Lok Sabha and the 215th session of the Rajya Sabha will conclude Feb 26, subject to exigencies of government business, he said. The session will have 10 sittings over 15 days, he said. The president will address a joint session of both houses at 11.00 a.m. Thursday. The interim railway budget for 2009-10 will be presented in the Lok Sabha Feb 13 immediately after question hour, and the interim general budget for 2009-10 at 11.00 a.m. on Feb 16, Vayalar Ravi said. The last parliament session before the general elections slated for April-May is likely to be tumultous with the opposition expected to attack the government on the controversy over the Election Commission, the job losses due to the economic meltdown and the response to the Nov 26-29 Mumbai terrorist attacks. Some fireworks are also likely with the ruling Congress-led United Progressive Alliance (UPA) attacking the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) for its decision to revive the Ram temple demand ahead of the Lok Sabha polls.
