NEW DELHI: Against the backdrop of India's biggest golf course, a project aimed at non-resident Indians with deep pockets is coming up at Greater Noida on the capital's outskirts. Being promoted as "a little Singapore in India", its promoters Omaxe Construction Ltd. are looking at adapting Continental and French style villas to an Indian ambience. Omaxe is a 5-billion turnover company. NRI City "will cater to the ambience and standard of living NRIs enjoy overseas. This project is being promoted at the right time when the NRIs may be looking for a home here of the standard they are used to," Omaxe chairman and managing director Rohtas Goel told IANS. "We are currently in negotiations with architects in Singapore for developing the project and have already engaged landscape developers Belt Collins to work on the NRI city said Goel. To be developed in three years at a cost of 4 billion, the planners will start work on the project next month and roll out the road show in the Middle East and other regions by May or June. Situated near a six-lane express highway to Delhi, the 85-acre township will face an 18-hole 222-acre golf course and will be developed in four phases. In the first phase, plots of between 300 to 1,000 square yards costing 7,600 per square yard and spread over 35 acres would be allotted. Three or four bedroom apartments priced at 1,300 per square yard will be assigned next, followed by a commercial hub including a shopping mall, schools and health facilities on two acres. The final phase involves the construction of bungalows. A key attraction of the project would be a 20 metre wide green belt around the city with two to three km long jogging tracks. Omaxe is banking on the appeal of the location, with promise of captive power and regular water supply in Greater Noida, to attract investors. And, if Greater Noida's master plan fructifies, residents of NRI City will have access to an artificially created lake in the vicinity besides several colleges, institutions and an India Exposition Mart that is coming up close by.
