Obama's tax plans contradict G-20 promise: Premji
Bangalore:Reacting to U.S. President Barack Obama's statement to alter the tax system to stop outsourcing to places like Bangalore, Azim Premji, Chairman, Wipro, an Indian IT services giant, said, "The proposed reforms is worrying, I hope Obama will exercise lot of judgment on the issue." According to him, the statement contradicts the commitment made by Obama in G-20. Premji uttered his concern, while responding to media queries during the opening of Wipro's new integrated product qualification and certification facility, by former President Abdul Kalam. Speaking at the function Kalam said, "Certification is key to competitiveness." Hence the facility christened Tarang would improve the competitiveness of products in the market. According to Premji, the facility will help in enhancing research and development (R&D) in India. "It is very critical to have more investments in R&D, but in India it has been awfully inadequate." "The total investment in this facility would be around $10 million and half of it is already spent now", said Girish Paranjpe, Joint CEO and Member of the Board, Wipro. According to Paranjpe, most of the workforce will be taken from the current team of engineers, while few may be hired. The facility would be offering services in consultancy, pre-compliance testing and certification for various geographies in the areas of electromagnetic compatibility, mechanical, thermal, acoustic, safety and reliability. The facility is equipped to test electronic products in the aerospace, automotive, computing, consumer electronics, industrial automation, medical electronics and telecommunication industries.
