Now network over coffee at Bangalore's Cafe Coffee Day Square

Bangalore: Retail chain Cafe Coffee Day has opened a 'square' in the heart of India's IT hub, across the evergreen Cubbon Park, to give a flavour of original brews from the world over to coffee lovers. Complete with a wi-fi enabled conference room, customers can even do business at the new cafe. Said to be the first in the sub-continent, Coffee Day Square is a new specialty format where brew-masters serve a hot cup by roasting beans that may be grown in far away Colombia, Costa Rica, Ethiopia, Peru and nearer home in the Himalayas, or right here in Karnataka. "Our square is a unique joint where a variety of single origin coffee brews from coffee-growing countries, including India, are made and served in an avant-garde ambience," Cafe Coffee Day director Alok Gupta told IANS at the square's launch Monday. Unlike in conventional coffee shops or cafes, an interested customer will have an opportunity to witness how a cup of his/her choice is brewed from roasting to blending. "Coffee making has become an art form, perfected over many years of roasting, blending, brewing and serving. The launch of this square is a natural evolution for the brand," Gupta said. Targeted at the upwardly mobile and generation next, the square is being promoted as an ideal place for networking, socialising, doing business and family outings. "Coffee drinking at a joint like this will emerge as a happening thing, as the brew is no longer a privilege of the die-hards. From being a choice by habit, coffee-drinking is becoming an accepted lifestyle even in a culture-bound society," Gupta observed. Located in downtown Bangalore adjacent to the glitzy UB City, a new office-cum-shopping landmark, and with a sports stadium on the other side, the square will be able to host 80-100 guests at a time from 8 a.m. to 11 p.m. "We also have an eight-seat conference room with wi-fi facility for executive business meetings. We plan to offer video conference soon," Gupta said. For those who want food with their coffee, there is a variety of continental dishes. The square will be replicated in other metros, including Mumbai, Kolkata and New Delhi, over the next three to six months at an estimated cost of 1.5 billion. Cafe Coffee Day plans to add another 250-300 retail outlets over the next 12 months to the 700-odd running now.
