New fingerprint technology to make online accounts safer
London: It must be a tough task for those of you holding multiple online accounts to remember the various usernames and passwords. Now thanks to an innovation by a student, Sara Alotaibi from Southampton University, your predicament has a solution and that is accessing all your security codes with your fingertip. The system called FingerID makes use of fingerprint technology to insert the correct password on its own for any website that you may visit. Once registered, you have to insert all your existing usernames and passwords for each of your online accounts followed by scanning your finger. Following the above procedure, next time you need to access an online account of yours, all you need to do is to just swipe your fingerprint into the system and you will reach into your account. Sara developed the system as part of her Masters degree program. The system can protect people from online fraud and identity theft. The system was tested with a test group of 100 people and showed commercial prospects. Experts believe the system could go live in few months time. The innovator was quoted in the Daily Mail as saying, "The service makes it possible for users to maintain multiple online accounts using a scan of their fingerprint as a password. It will allow Internet users to authenticate their identity in a hassle-free manner and go about their activities in a secure environment without the fear of loss of identity and money."
