NetApp unveils green innovation center in Bangalore
Bangalore: In a bid to increase customer experience, the storage player NetApp has set up NetApp Innovation Center (NIC) where customers can literally walk in and accurately assess measurable benefits of advanced technology in their data center environments. This 390 rack data center, in which NetApp has invested $20 million, delivers a power usage ratio of 1.55 which can be compared with the Industry average ratio of 2.5, and thereby addressing the green IT requirements in the growing industry. The NIC is collocated with the NetApp engineering center in Bangalore, which was set up in 2003; hence adding an advantage for clients that they will receive technical help from experts for running and testing their applications on the data centers before they decide to buy one. Customers can test their applications in NIC with simulation scenarios, run benchmarks, stress tests and integration with NetApp data management suite of solutions. The team at NIC will work with customers to solve the problems specific to their environments which are not addressed by standard solutions and architectural blueprints. The NIC has already helped 90 percent of the customers to design and select the right solution for their environments. Key drivers for NetApp data centers are Virtualization, Ethernet Storage and Cloud Computing, among others. The NIC will showcase leading data storage and management technologies like Data protection with RAID-DP, Thin provisioning with FlexVol, De-duplication and LUN provisioning with Snap Drive, in order to meet the next generation computing requirements. Leveraging these technologies, the company has seen a 30 percent YoY reduction in its data center costs. Going virtual and using more advanced technologies have helped NetApp decommission 160 servers and add 250 virtual servers. That helped the company save 12500 unit of power per month saving Rs 75000. "Storage is one of the fastest growing areas in the data center which witnessed increased spending, especially as the economic slowdown has made it imperative for customers to look at innovative ways to do more with less," Said Rajesh Janey, President - Sales, India and SAARC, NetApp. The company added more than 100 customers in the last one year. "This center will provide NetApp customers an opportunity to evaluate and validate the technology innovations in enterprise data management, and help them choose the best solution suited for their business needs," said Syed Masroor Director - Systems Engineering, NetApp India.
