Mumbai man arrested for duping people of Rs 40 lakh

Hyderabad:A Mumbai-based man has been arrested here for allegedly cheating people of Rs 40 lakh by sending them e-mails for friendship with "high profile women", police said here. Sarvesh Nigam sent e-mails across the country stating that he will arrange friendship with 'high profile women, and asked mail recipients to pay membership fee between Rs 2,000-Rs 25,000, a senior CID official said today. "To lure people he misused the names of popular club and resorts, airlines and other businesses and persons, who fell prey to such temptations, deposited membership amount into a bogus bank account that the accused opened in Mumbai," the CID official explained, adding Nigam made an amount of around Rs 40 lakhs by cheating people since 2006. He was arrested here by Cyber Crime cell of Crime Investigation Department yesterday.
