Jayalalitha
Jayalalitha is another child of controversy. She made raves for her alleged support to the LTTE. The allegation has been made due to her forming a coalition with LTTE well wishers such as Vaiko. The former Chief Minster denied the report said that she holds a strong position against the LTTE and stated that she fulfilled a pioneering task in banning the LTTE in India. Due to several allegations of corruption and malfeasance against her and her ministers, she lost power to the D.M.K in 1996. Her first term as Chief Minister of Tamil Nadu resulted in several legal actions being brought against her, mainly involving charges of embezzlement and monetary fraud. In 2001, a specially designated court convicted her of criminal breach of trust and of illegally acquiring governmental property belonging to TANSI, a state-run agency. She was sentenced her to five years' imprisonment but appealed to the Supreme Court. As the conviction stood until the outcome of the appeal was decided, she was disqualified from contesting the 2001 elections. The showdown between karunanithi and Jaylalitha is not hidden from anyone and the 2G scam has kept both the personalities engaged. Every now and then she has been making comments on Karnimozi's involment on 2G scam. When asked on kanimopzi bail plea and if she should be granted bail she said, "No, It's a wrong argument for bail. In politics, no concession is given because you are a woman."
