NEW DELHI : Moser Baer India Ltd., the world's third largest maker of recordable compact discs, is setting up a unit in Germany that would produce up to 17 per cent of its expanded capacity, an official said on Thursday. "When this facility is fully operational, the investment envisaged is $100 million," Rakesh Govil, head of strategy at Moser, said. "Of this, 35 per cent will be a capital subsidy from the government there." The German plant is expected to start commercial production by December this year or January 2005, Govil said. "This factory would produce between 15-17 per cent of our overall capacity of two billion discs a year," he added. New Delhi-based Moser competes with larger Taiwanese rivals CMC Magnetics and Ritek. Its optical discs are used for storage purposes in the information technology and the entertainment sectors.
