Microsoft developing tablet PC before Apple
New York: Microsoft is developing a tablet personal computer "Courier" which will help the software giant to take on Apple's planned tablet PC. A tablet personal computer generally refers to a laptop which has a touch screen for operating the device in place of a keyboard or mouse. "It feels like the whole world is holding its breath for the Apple tablet. May be we all have been dreaming about the wrong device. This is Courier, Microsoft's astonishing take on the tablet," commented technology blog Gizmodo. The device is said to be in the "late prototype" stage of development. "The dual seven inch screens are multi touch, and designed for writing, flicking and drawing with a stylus, in addition to fingers. They are connected by a hinge that holds a single iPhone-esque home button," said the report. According to Gizmodo, until recently, the project was only known to the few engineers and executives working on it. J Allard, Chief Experience Officer and Chief Technology Officer, Entertainment and Devices Division, Microsoft, is heading the project. The report also added that currently Courier appears to be at a stage where Microsoft is developing the user experience and showing design concepts to outside agencies. Apple is been expected to launch its own tablet PC, likely to be a large version of its iPhone but has not announced any plans so far.
