Lenovo launches ThinkServer to tap 35 million Indian SMBs

Bangalore: Lenovo unveils Thinkserver, an SMB oriented server platform, to tap the Indian SMBs which currently stands at 35 million. The product, which is launched for the first time in Asia Pacific in Bangalore, is coupled with management tools and support tools which have softwares that allows users to install, update and oversee performance of one or more servers. Currently, the SMBs in India contributes around 30 percent accounting to around $6.6 billion of the total IT spending as per a study by Zinnov Management Consulting, which is set to touch $9.7 billion. To capture this ever growing Indian SMB space, the companies are unveiling new products. "Rather than scaling down existing server offerings predominantly meant for large enterprises, the approach is specifically geared towards addressing the needs of SMB and mid-market companies," says Chris Kelly, Director, Enterprise Systems, Lenovo APAC. The current market share of servers in the SMB section is 3500 units per quarter. However, the Indian SMB is far behind its Asian counterparts in terms of investing in IT. "IT investments in China is three times more than India," says Amar Babu, Managing Director, Lenovo India, who through their ThinkServers are stepping into the server market for the first time. So, Rajnish Arora, Research Director, Asia Pacific enterprise servers and workstations research, IDC says, "The companies will have to indulge in enormous educational programs specifically designed to make SMBs in India more aware about the happenings in IT."
