NEW DELHI: Mangalore Refinery and Petrochemicals Ltd (MRPL) has awarded Larsen & Toubro a turnkey contract for setting up a clean fuel facility to produce Euro III and Euro IV compliant petrol. MRPL, a subsidiary of state-owned energy major Oil and Natural Gas Corporation (ONGC), "has awarded a contract for clean fuel ISOM project on turnkey basis to Larsen & Toubro Ltd. at a cost of 2.67 billion ($58 million)", an official release said Friday. With India having already laid out the guidelines for the introduction of better quality transport fuels across the country in phases, oil-refining companies are in the process of upgrading their facility to meet the regulatory clean fuel norms. "This project is towards upgradation of MRPL refinery for producing Euro III/Euro IV compliant petrol," the official release said. The project is scheduled to be completed in nine months. The MRPL refinery already has facilities for producing Euro III grade high-speed diesel oil.
