KOCHI: Fourteen months after it started, the Infopark here is home to 24 IT companies, including biggies like Wipro and TCS, and its new building that will be ready in the next two months is already "fully booked", say officials. "We began operations on November 2003 and by now 24 companies here occupy 120,000 sq ft of space. Our newest building of 220,000 sq ft is getting ready in less than two months' time and it has already been fully booked. "The entire building would house just six companies and it includes the biggest IT players in the country and from outside," said K.G. Girish Babu, CEO of Infopark. Reports indicate that among those who will set up shop in the new building are Spanish IT company DITRD and ACS, which is the second biggest IT company at the Technology Park in Bangalore. "Today the biggest problem is that we are running short of space. I have at the moment 23 'hot leads'. Cordys from Britain, who now operate in Hyderabad, is eyeing our place," Babu told IANS. Added IT secretary Aruna Sundararajan: "A year back I would get just one or two inquiries a month from IT companies for operations from Kerala and today I get as many inquiries every day." She said a third building of 220,000 sq ft at Infopark should be ready in seven months. Wipro InfoTech and Wipro Technologies are the latest entrants at Infopark and will open their offices on Jan 17. In February Kerala's biggest IT company IBS that operates from Technopark in Thiruvananthapuram will start a new unit in Infopark in February. "The biggest advantage Kochi has over Thiruvananthapuram is that it is more cosmopolitan. And with Kochi growing in infrastructure like never before, it could well become the final IT destination in the country," IBS chief V.K. Mathews said.
