Kingfisher reverts to peak season fare from Oct 1

New Delhi: Kingfisher Airlines Friday said it would revert back to its peak season fare, which is five percent more than current rates, from Oct 1 to coincide with the festive season beginning next month. "With the advent of the festive season, the special off-peak fares that were being offered by our airlines will now revert back to their original levels. This will apply to basic fares and will be applicable from October 1, 2008," Prakash Mirpuri, senior official and spokesperson of the airlines said in a statement Friday. Mirpuri, however, did not quantify the increase in the statement. It is understood that fares would go up by five percent. "The hike will vary from sector to sector depending on the off-peak fares that were being offered, but it will not be more than five percent," said an airline official. "This should not be considered as a hike," he added. Although other schedule carriers like Air India - India's national air carrier - and Jet Airways have not made a formal announcement concerning fare hike, they too are expected to hike fares by the month-end, according to industry sources. Jet Airways CEO Wolfgang Prock-Schauer said Sep 25 the carrier was considering a fare hike during the festive season. Airlines, including low-cost carriers, are currently offering basic fares ranging from 100 to 500 excluding taxes, which range between 3,500 and 3,900.
