BANGALORE: Karnataka government has ambitious plans to nurture computer hardware industry in and around Bangalore, including a 'hardware technology park' project, chief minister SM Krishna said in Bangalore on Monday. Inaugurating a development centre of US-based company Tasman Networks in Bangalore, he said the government would make all efforts to attract investments in hardware sector. A Hardware Technology Park would soon be set up in the vicinity of the International Airport due to come up at Devanahalli in Bangalore outskirts, Krishna said. The Park, to be developed on the lines of Software Technology Park in Bangalore, was a step towards attracting more investments in the hardware sector, he said. There are 31 hardware companies in India with hardware exports accounting for Rs 1,400 crore. The government foresaw immense potential in this sector, he said. Earlier, Paul Smith, CEO of Tasman Networks USA, a leading provider of networking solutions for Bandwidth-intensive applications, said Tasman Networks India, which had already invested $4 million, planned to invest another four to five million next year. The company also proposed to increase its workforce from 25 to 300 in the next three years, he said. "I foresee a new trend of smaller startup companies opening up in Bangalore which in turn will attract more such companies", Smith said.
