SEATTLE: SonicWALL, Inc. (Nasdaq: SNWL), a provider of Internet security solutions, today announced that the Kansas City School District will deploy its Wireless Security Solution?SOHO TZW Education Edition and the SonicWALL Global Management System (GMS). Sonic WALL?s solution, which can be remotely managed by network administrators, brings mobile learning environment to Kansas City Schools. The Kansas City School District comprises 68 schools, 4,000 faculty members, and over 24,000 students. Networks serving educational deployments must support the dual requirements of convenience and safety. Until now, meeting these needs has been a difficult and expensive proposition for network administrators. While the productivity of ubiquitous wireless access is compelling, these links must be secured to maintain the confidentiality of private student information. At the same time, students must be shielded from inappropriate web content. SonicWALL?s solution combines content filtering with secure wireless access. The content filtering module protects students from harmful web content. The secure wireless capabilities of the SOHO Education Edition enable a more productive learning environment by giving faculty and students untethered access to the Internet, while restricting wireless access to sensitive internal network resources to authorized and authenticated users. "We needed a secure wireless gateway that would give students and faculty the productivity that comes from 'just in time' learning -- this means the flexibility to access network resources wherever the learning opportunity is, whether it's in the classroom, in the library, or outside," said Dennis Peterson, manager of technical services, Kansas City School District. "As schools move beyond traditional computer labs to incorporating the Internet into all aspects of the education environment, safety and productivity concerns must be addressed," said Douglas Brockett, SonicWALL vice president of worldwide marketing.
